Efter återföreningsbeskedet – Slowdive har planer på ett nytt album

Neil Halstead avslöjar att Slowdive bland annat turnerar för att kunna göra en ny skiva.

Tidigare i dag bekräftades det som vi väntat på: Slowdive återförenas i år och spelar i skarven mellan vår och sommar på Primavera i Barcelona. Det är den enda hittills bekräftade spelningen. Nu, i en ny intervju med The Quietus, berättar frontmannen Neil Halstead dessutom att bandet inte bara har konserter i åtanke. Snarare är spelningarna ett sätt att finansiera vad den legendariska shoegazekonstellationen från början planerat ska komma att bli ett nytt album.

– [It] was the idea of doing some new music, berättar han. It seemed easier to do that because it’s not so public. But then we thought it would be good if we could raise a bit of money to make the record, and doing a couple of gigs would enable us to do that. And that’s the way it shaped up – while we’re rehearsing we can see if we’ve got another record in us.

Han säger också att bandets setlist kommer blanda gamla favoriter och några mer oväntade val och gör det tydligt vilka turnén riktar sig till:

– It’s more about the people who are into it and like the records rather than proving anything to anyone. We’re not getting paid enough for there to be any real financial incentive for doing it. But there are loads of artistic reasons, especially if we can get a new record together.”
