Metallica börjar spela in nytt album i inledningen av 2014

Metallica gör sig redo för ett nytt kapitel.

Metallica – som i somras headlineade Roskilde – är redo att börja spela in igen. Uppföljaren till 2008 års Death Magnetic har sin grund i över 600 låtidéer och planen är att dessa snart ska sållas igenom och så småningom, till våren 2014, ha hittat en form som sedan spelas in. I en intervju med The Oakland Press berättar frontmannen James Hetfield följande:

”Hopefully it happens soon. I’m itchin’. We have tons of material to sift through. That takes a lot of time, because there’s a lot of great stuff. I know we only need a few songs, but there’s 800 riffs we’re going through. It’s kind of insane. We have sifted through a lot of the stuff and pulled the cream of the crop – it’s just sitting there waiting for us to take it to the next level.”

Metallicas senaste utgivning, Lulu, släpptes 2011, ett samarbete med Lou Reed som sågades och gjordes till åtlöje i en rad olika publikationer och av människor världen över. Bland annat innehöll den 87 minuter långa plattan singeln The View, vilken med den historiskt underliga raden ”I am the table” gav upphov till en rad memes. Med den historiken i bakhuvudet kan man tillsammans med den nya informationen kosta på sig att vara åtminstone lite orolig; i en intervju med tidningen The Verge nyligen uttalade sig Kirk Hammett mycket positivt om alstret:

“I think that Lulu is some of the best stuff we’ve done. I mean the song ‘Junior Dad’ moves me to tears, and working with Lou Reed was such a cool, unique, and special thing for us. Maybe it’s not for everyone. Maybe it’s a challenge for our fans, but for us — Lars, James, Rob, and myself — we loved doing it and it was such a great experience. We look back at it very positively.”
